The Golden Black Molly Poecilia sphenops is part of the Poecilia genus referred to as the common Molly. Common Mollies are popular feeder fish because of their high growth rate, reproduction rate and brood number. However, the coloration of this fish allows it to transcend above a feeder fish to an ornamental freshwater fish because of the golden sheen of the anterior of its body and black posterior.
Exhibiting a peaceful temperament, this small Molly grows to less than 3” and is playful and energetic. At home in brackish aquariums, they prefer hard, alkaline water conditions and require an aquarium of at least 30 gallons and plenty of room to swim.
The Golden Black Molly is omnivorous and requires both meaty foods as well as algae. They should be provided a diet of algae-based flake food, freeze-dried bloodworms, tubifex, and brine shrimp.
